The Harris Montrose Bursary

Overview

Bursaries of up to 拢2500 per year of study for undergraduate students from Montrose or it's environs, Scotland.

The Harris Montrose Bursary is for students from Montrose, Scotland, planning to study a four year undergraduate degree here at Abertay. Bursaries of up to 拢2,500 will be given for each year of study.

We encourage applications from prospective undergraduate students though only first year students fully enrolled on an undergraduate course in 26-27 can be offered an award. 

Eligibility 

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be starting a four-year undergraduate course at Abertay for the first time in September 2025.
• Be living in Montrose or nearby in the surrounding area.
• Be able to demonstrate a financial need for support in the application form.
• Be able to show that their academic grades improve throughout their degree, or that they have had consistently high marks in each year of study.
• Be willing to meet the award conditions listed below.

What to include

You need to write a personal statement as part of your application. You may want to include information such as:

• Your academic motivation, achievements and ambitions, both during your time at Abertay and your plans after graduation.
• Your values, personal attributes and passions, in and outside of university. For instance, any charity work you do such as volunteering or involvement in sports, clubs or societies.
• Any challenges that you have overcome to progress in your academic journey.
• Any difficulties financial you are facing and how the award would make a positive impact on your studies/student life.

How the funding works

Up to a maximum of 拢2500 per year of study. The award will be made in two instalments in October and February, in each year of study.

Award conditions

Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions if they accept the award:

• To write a letter of thanks (through a feed back form).
• Give permission for parts of the feedback to be quoted in promotional materials, if required.
• To be willing to meet with representatives of the scholarship if required.
• To write an end-of-year update on your progress at 麻豆原创.

Application queries and help

Staff in the Advisory Service can offer support and guidance with the application process including: 

• Feedback on the first draft of your personal statement by email or at a Drop-In appointment.
• Checking your application face to face at a Drop-In.
• Advice on where to look for opportunities.
• Eligibility queries for awards that we administer.
• Evidence queries.

Please contact Advisory at least 4 weeks before the application deadline. This is to ensure that there is adequate time for staff to review your email, and for you to make alterations based on any feedback provided.

Advisory Service run Drop-In sessions on a first-come first-serve basis, during term time usually between 1pm-4pm, Monday to Thursday on the ground floor of the library. If you have a question about Drop-In sessions you can visit the SEZ desk in person, or email advisory@abertay.ac.uk
